PK Motors formed in early 2014, and we were tasked with providing them with their first website to help get their business up and running.
Three years on we were asked to help with an updated website, but this time with a little more functionality than the previous one. Like it or not, the big player in car sales in the UK is AutoTrader. If you’re going to have a car sales business you simply have to be on there, but on the other hand customers like to see a bespoke website for the business too, as it inspires confidence and shows that the dealer is serious. Ideally you need both.
The downside is that cars now need to be added to AutoTrader and to the businesses website manually, so effectively duplicating the work. Adding cars along with descriptions and images can be time consuming, so if we can reduce this time by half then that’s got to be a good thing. We had a chat with the guys at AutoTrader and asked them if they could provide us with a daily feed of PK Motors stock. They were happy to help, so every day a data file from AutoTrader is uploaded to the PK Motors website server, and a scheduled task imports all data and images automatically. It adds new car listings, updates any where the specifications have changed, and deletes those that have been sold – and all without the business having to do a thing.
